Taylor (2018)  defines culture as the "sum total of human behavior or social characteristics particular to a specific group and passed from generation to generation or from one to another within the group." In addition, it influences the roles and interactions with others as well as within families and communities, as is apparent int he attitudes and institutions unique to particular groups (Andrews & Boyle, 2016).

It is important to consider culture when looking at a country's health behaviors, people's perception of illness, system and priorities. Skolnik (2019) claims that "people's attitudes toward foods and what they eat, for example, are closely related to culture." He further writes that culture determines when groups choose to visit the hospital to address their condition and how they express pain (Skolnik, 2019).
